Skin staplers are surgical medical devices used to quickly and accurately close wounds. They typically consist of a disposable, portable, handheld unit that releases a single rectangular staple. Design features of skin staplers include an angled head to visualize the deployment of the staples while suturing; a rotatable head to facilitate precise placement of staples; and an ergonomic, lightweight design to minimize hand and arm fatigue.

Staples are generally made of 316L stainless steel, with a diameter of approximately 0.5 mm, a span of 6 to 10 mm, and a leg length of 3.5 mm. Some staplers use wider staples with a span of 7 to 13 mm and a leg length of 4 mm, which are suitable for wounds with more edematous tissue. After the staples penetrate the skin, a final box-like structure is formed, which facilitates good skin closure and a certain degree of tissue protrusion, which is beneficial for wound healing.
